Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is a singer and actress who rose to fame in the 1970s through her family’s variety TV show The Jacksons. She started her solo career in 1982 with her self-titled debut album, but it wasn’t until the release of her third studio album Control that people began to realize the immense degree of talent she had.

Before femme fatale figures were fusing fashion with upbeat dance moves and feminist statements, the original queen of soul and style started the trend. Her fashion evolution grew with her style in music. Back in the 1980s, Jackson was one of the first artists to embrace military inspired fashion, rocking army hats, gloves and jacket. One of her most notable looks was during 14^th Annual American Music Awards in Los Angeles, where she highly resembled her brother on the form fitting, black suite and messy hair. In the passing years, the Grammy winner turned to power suits, form-hugging dresses, and voluminous skirt as she grew to embrace her maturity.
